Sources and Editorial Method
How local facts, office information, and research guidance are checked.
Every local claim should be traceable to a source that a reader can open or locate. Priority goes to official Whitley County and Indiana pages, Indiana Courts, the Indiana State Library, the U.S. Census Bureau, and identified archival or historical repositories. Wikipedia may help orientation, but it is not used here to support volatile office contacts.
What a page citation means
A source link supports the limited statement attached to it. It does not certify every claim on an external page, and it does not turn an index into an original record. Office addresses, telephone numbers, hours, fees, and procedures are deliberately left on official pages because they change.
Derivative material
Indexes, abstracts, transcripts, databases, published histories, and user-contributed collections are labeled by function. Researchers are encouraged to locate the underlying record and preserve both citations when the derivative source contributed useful information.
Corrections
A correction should identify the page, disputed statement, and stronger source. Unsupported additions are not published. Uncertainty is retained when sources conflict or when Wayback, an archive, or an official server cannot be reached.
