Indiana’s official Whitley County profile lists Columbia City, Churubusco, Larwill, South Whitley, and nine townships. The pages in this directory do not invent local histories for those places. Instead, each page explains a geographic ambiguity that can affect record research.

Use a dated place reference

Write the place name exactly as it appears in the source, then attach county, state, date, and record type. For land questions, add township, range, section, subdivision, lot, or legal description when available. A modern map label should not silently replace historical wording.

Move from place to custodian

A community name can appear in county filings even when the event or parcel lies elsewhere. Use the public-records directory to identify the creating office, the maps method to evaluate geography, and county formation to check jurisdiction near 1835.
